DESCRIPTION:FINA Grand Prix Singapore 2019 Review\nAidan Heslop and Euan McCabe have just returned from Singapore where they represented GBR on the final leg of the 2019 FINA Grand Prix. Unfortunately\, Aidan was unable to compete due to injury; he already has 2 FINA Grand Prix bronze medals to his credit from 2017 and 2018 when he competed on platform. Fourteen year old Euan was selected to debut in his first senior competition and took part in the 3m event finishing in 17th position. With expert guidance from his coach (Sally Freeman) he successfully trialled 2 new dives and had a difficult list of dives to perform.

DESCRIPTION:Scottish Nationals and Open Diving Championships 2019 Review\nA select team of divers from Plymouth have just returned from competing at the Scottish Nationals and Open Diving Championships held in Edinburgh\, where they were up against some talented competitors.\nOllie Heath and Theo Stevens dived up into group C boys across all 3 boards. This was their first competition at this level and they dealt with the experience in an admirable manner. Ollie’s best performance was on platform and Theo the 3m board. Both boys have just been selected for the Swim England Z camp – an 18 month programme consisting of 7 intensive training camps.\nKatie Martin dived for the group C girls and Summer Radcliffe for the group B girls; they qualified for both of their springboard finals. Katie was the winner on the 1m board and proudly took top position on the podium to claim the gold medal; she just missed out on a medal on the 3m board finishing in 4th. Summer performed a confident and elegant round of dives to win the bronze medal on the 1m board and finished 5th on 3m.\nZach Anderson dived up into group B for all 3 boards with his best result on the 3m board. He qualified for the final where he finished in 6th position amongst a tough competitive group most of whom were much older.\nFourteen year old Josh Freeman dived up into group A for all 3 boards. His best performance was on platform where he just missed out on the final after a failed armstand dive which left him in 7th position following a solid set of required dives. Connor West in the same platform event successfully made the final and finished 5th.\nFrances Burdett competed on the 1m and platform for group A girls. She showed true determination and courage after falling flat on her back from 10m and finished the last 2 dives to gain the respect of all present. Cody Powell-Tuckett also dived off platform for group A qualifying in 1st position with a personal best score; in the final she finished 5th. Emily Martin qualified in 1st position for the Women’s platform but unfortunately had to withdraw from the final. Cody also competed in this event and finished 4th.\nMatthew Dixon upped his game after qualifying for the Men’s 1m in 4th position to win the silver medal in the final. In the Men’s platform Matthew went on to win his second silver medal. Connor\, despite picking up an injury also made the Men’s platform final and finished 5th.\nSummer and Josh competed in the fun team event and finished 7th with a consistent set of dives and a very in tune synchro dive.\nThe divers were coached throughout the competition by Alex Rochas and Sally Freeman.

DESCRIPTION:ESSA 2019 Review\nThe 70th anniversary of the English Schools Swimming Association saw a South West team of divers compete at the prestigious London Aquatics Centre last Sunday.\nIn a close fought contest Yvie Tucker from St. Matthew’s Primary Academy won the silver medal in the primary girls section. The primary boys all finished in the top 8; Evan Walker 5th\, Alex Whittaker 7th and Oscar Westbury 8th.\nScarlett Colbourne was just out of reach of the bronze medal in the junior section by 0.2 points. Ben Kearton also missed out on a medal placing 4th and Archie Waines 7th for the boys.\nOlive Ullyatt from Southampton was the only diver not from Plymouth Diving. She was the highest scoring girl in the intermediate section finishing 6th. The two top intermediate boys were ahead of the rest of the competitors with Euan McCabe from Hele’s School claiming the silver medal.\nThree senior girls from Plymouth battled it out all finishing in the top 6. Evie McCabe fought back after her first dive to finish in 4th position leaving team mate Abby Fishleigh from Plymouth High to take the bronze with a lead of just 0.3 points. Maria Marasescu finished 6th. Two senior boys battled for first place and it all came down to the last dive. Curtis Yeun who attends Plymouth College was pipped to the post and finished with the third silver medal for the team.\nOther divers taking part in the competition were Lexi Davies\, Rose McCabe\, Ellie Pearce\, Amelie Underwood\, Lucy Gutierrez-Freeman\, Maia Pearson\, Jack Kinsman-Moore and Ben Hall.\nCoaches for the competition were Ashley Hendrick and Harry Mason.

SUMMARY:British Championships
DESCRIPTION:British Diving Championships 2020 Review\nPlymouth Life Centre hosted the British Diving Championships over the weekend. This is a prestigious senior competition showcasing the best British talent with guest divers from around the world also competing. Eight Plymouth divers were selected to participate\, which included four juniors.\nUnfortunately for Emily Martin she was injured whilst training immediately prior to her first event and had to withdraw from the competition.\nIn the 1m event Summer Radcliffe drastically improved on her score from the previous year to finish in thirteenth position. In a huge group of 29 divers Summer finished in eleventh position on 3m after a consistent round of dives.\nOn platform Cody Powell-Tuckett finished in twelfth position in a tough and highly competitive group.\nCurtis Yeun the 1m and 3m National Age Group Champion for 2019 struggled to find his form on 3m but had a successful set of dives on 1m to finish in eleventh position\, ahead of some more experienced British divers. Euan McCabe also competed on 3m. After a shaky start in the preliminary round he pulled it back in style to finish in seventh position putting him into the final. Up against 7 other senior divers he was unable to improve on his position but won the junior bronze medal in recognition for being the third highest ranking junior diver.\nThe platform event for the men saw four Plymouth divers in action. Euan had to deliver most dives off 5m due to an injury that he is recovering from. None the less he still managed to finish in ninth position with a strong set of dives. Josh Freeman did not start well but improved during the competition conquering his armstand and finishing with an impressive reverse 2 ½ off 10 metres. Finishing in eleventh position was Connor West in his final diving competition. During his 10 year competitive diving career Connor has achieved great success with the help of his coach Fito Gutierrez. In 2016 and 2017 he was the gold medallist at National Age Groups on both the 3m and platform. Connor is now passing on his wealth of experience to others at the Life Centre where he now coaches. Finishing the preliminary round in second position Matthew Dixon was not to be outdone in the final. Supported by his coach Alex Rochas\, family and local spectators\, Matthew gave them something to cheer about. After the second dive Matthew led all the way and smashed the magical 500 point barrier to win gold – an incredible achievement that few divers attain. With places still up for grabs for the Tokyo Olympics\, Plymouth Diving has high hopes for Matthew and Emily. Matthew will have the opportunity to qualify when he attends the World Cup in April.\nCoaches also on hand for the weekend to offer advice were Sally Freeman and Claire Burton.

DESCRIPTION:Junior European Diving Championships and FINA Diving World Cup 2021 \nThe lack of pool taining available in Plymouth did not faze Euan McCabe when he competed last week in the Junior European Diving Championships held in Croatia. \nHis coach; Sally Freeman was unable to join him on the trip but this did not prevent him from winning the bronze medal in the Group B\, 10m event. \nMcCabe teamed up with Ben Cutmore from Dive London for the 10m synchro. This was the first outing for the pair and resulted in an impressive performance to win the silver medal. \nPlymouth Diving continues to face challenges\, with the Life Centre diving pool still out of action until the end of August this year. Currently the best the club can offer divers is a wet session in Poole once a week. 9 \n

DESCRIPTION:In September Plymouth diver Aidan Heslop competed in the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series as a Wildcard. With a finish position of 7th in Ireland he then travelled to Italy to finish 4th in Puglia and only 0.3 points off a podium finish. His final stop at Polignano a Mare placed him in 5th. The youngest male diver on the circuit\, Aidan has already accomplished huge success and is destined for further victories.

SUMMARY:Southampton Invitational
DESCRIPTION:Plymouth Diving returned to full time training at the beginning of September following a difficult period where the diving pool at the Life Centre was shut for over 17 months. With less than 7 weeks full time training behind them a 13 strong team of divers were back in action last weekend at the Southampton Invitational. \nGroup D boys were represented by Oscar Westbury and Will Heath. Oscar had a challenging preliminary round on the 1m board but was unperturbed\, going on to comfortably win the bronze medal. Will proudly joined Oscar on the podium with his silver medal. Not content with one medal Will also won a bronze on the 3m board. \nOllie Heath in group C had a rewarding weekend. After winning the preliminary round on platform he was not willing to give the top spot up and secured the gold in style. In a closely fought 3m event Ollie won the silver medal. \nScarlett Colbourne in group C dived consistently and with confidence on the 1m and 3m board. She narrowly missed out on the 3m final in 7th position. Scarlett finished 4th out of 29 to make the 1m final. \nKatie Martin was the highest scoring group B Plymouth girl on 3m. Team mates Maia Pearson and Ellie Pearce battled through a group of 29 divers with determination to make the 1m final which paid dividends\, Maia won the bronze medal and Ellie the silver. \nLucy Gutierrez-Freeman was the only diver in group A from the club. She finished 4th on 1m and won the silver medal in a thrilling platform final. \nOther team members included Alex Whittaker\, Eva Lang\, Lexi Davies and Phoebe White. They all set themselves new personal best targets after moving up a group from their last competition. Ben Hall and Alex both executed new dives with twist for the first time. \nTommy Davis coached all of the divers after stepping in at the last minute when another coach had to withdraw. At only 19 this was a massive undertaking for Tommy which he did with great enthusiasm. He played a vital role which contributed to the team’s achievements. \n

DESCRIPTION:The British Elite Junior Diving Championships hosted by the Plymouth Life Centre\, concluded on Saturday with a hoard of medals for Plymouth Diving. Showcasing the best talent on offer in the UK\, this is a tough competition for the select few. For most it also represented the first competition in 19 months.\nAmelie Underwood in group C 12/13 years won the silver medal on the 1m board with Scarlett Colbourne comfortably getting the bronze. The 3m board saw Amelie win a second silver and only 0.45 points off the gold. With a lower tariff in the preliminary round Scarlett improved on her fifth position to finish in fourth.\nThe only Plymouth diver to compete on all 3 boards was Ollie Heath who incredibly managed to medal on every board after some amazing dives. He won silver on platform\, bronze on 3m followed by a further bronze on 1m. Team mate Theo Stevens also had a great competition and only just missing a podium spot on both the 3m and 1m by a frustrating 0.45 points.\nSummer Radcliffe and Katie Martin represented group B 14-16 girls. Katie misjudged her footing on the 1m board and showed true grit and determination to carry on after a horrible fall. In a field of 17 divers Summer qualified easily in third position. With all finalists fighting for medals and despite diving well\, Summer finished in sixth. On the 3m board Katie fared better in tenth position with a personal best score. Summer was on track to qualify for the final until her last dive where an error on takeoff caused a drop in scores and so she missed the final this time.\nEuan McCabe in group B and partner Robbie Lee from Southampton teamed up to win the silver medal in the platform synchro. The individual platform gold was never in doubt for Euan. For the second consecutive time at these championships the title was his with a personal best score of 445 points.\nAidan Heslop also won gold on platform in group A 17-19 years\, with a stupendous score of 560.2 points. He outclassed his competitors with three dives each scoring over 80 points. Aidan and Ruby Thorne from Dive London dived as a mixed synchro pair for the first time as part of a plan for Team Wales. The pair hope to qualify for the Commonwealth Games in this new event.\nEuan has already secured a place at next months FINA World Junior Diving Championships as a result of silver and bronze medals at the Junior European Championships in June. Aidan also achieved the qualifying score and awaits confirmation of selection to the prestigious event in Ukraine.\nAll of the Elite Divers are coached by Sally Freeman. Without her ability to spot talent and nurturing skills then the divers would not reach their full potential and produce results to be proud of.

DESCRIPTION:British National Diving Cup 2022 \nPlymouth Life Centre hosted the British National Diving Cup over the weekend. With\nWorld Championships\, Commonwealth Games and European Championships scheduled\nto take place before the end of August\, the best senior divers from across the country\nwere in action vying for a podium finish. Three Plymouth divers who are coached by Sally\nFreeman were selected to represent Plymouth Diving – two of whom are juniors.\nAidan Heslop kick started the medal tally\, winning bronze in the 10m mixed synchro\nevent with partner Ruby Thorne from Dive London Aquatics Club.\nSummer Radcliffe had a superb round of dives in the 1m preliminary to finish in fifth\nposition overall. Going into the final Summer held her nerve and continued diving well.\nAs a junior Summer won the bronze medal. She also competed in the 3m event and\ndespite not making the final it was a valuable learning experience with the opportunity to\ndive against Olympians.\nOn platform Euan McCabe was in action. Comfortably competing against the senior\ndivers he gave them a run for their money and finished in second position after the\npreliminary round. As the highest scoring junior in the final\, Euan won a well-deserved\ngold medal crowning him a champion.

DESCRIPTION:Armada Cup 2022 Review \nA twenty-eight strong team of Plymouth divers have just finished competing in the Armada Cup held\nat the Plymouth Life Centre. In its 22 nd year it was a chance for the diving community to come\ntogether and celebrate the beginning of a full calendar of competitions since the pandemic hit.\nThirteen other diving clubs from around the country battled through storm Eunice to make the start\nof the four day event on Saturday. The competition was split into two sections – Junior Elite and Age\nGroup with South West Regional medals also up for grabs for the Age Group divers.\nHarry Westbury our youngest Age Group D diver finished in fourth place on the 1m board\, which\nearned him a gold South West medal.\nGirls group C Age Group was tough with the largest number of competitors. The nine South West\nmedals were shared between Lexi Davies\, Eva Lang and Yvie Tucker. Lexi was the most decorated\nwith an additional bronze medal for her outstanding 1m performance and silver for 3m.\nGroup C Age Group boys were represented by Oscar Westbury\, Will Heath and Alex Whittaker.\nBetween them they did a sterling job winning twelve individual medals. Alex picked up three South\nWest medals. Will finished in third on the 3m board to win bronze. On the 1m board Oscar secured\nthe silver medal. Together Will and Oscar made the platform final. It was going incredibly well for\nboth boys until Will’s foot slipped on his last dive ending his chance of a medal. Oscar safely reached\nthe silver podium position. Will and Oscar joined forces for the 1m synchro event where they took\nthe top spot winning gold. Team mate Noah Underwood sustained an injury prior to the Armada Cup\nand was sadly unable to participate.\nThe Age Group B girls scooped a total of nine South West medals between them. Erin Healey two\nsilver and one gold\, Harlie Stringer two bronze and one gold\, Mathilde Tassart a silver and gold. Rose\nMcCabe was back in action after suffering a serious elbow fracture last year and is gradually returning\nto previous form. She won a bronze South West medal on 3m.\nThe girls in Age Group A all medalled. Moving from skills to her first age group competition Ella\nCornish made a valiant effort on platform to win the South West gold medal. Lucy Gutierrez-Freeman\nwon the bronze South West medal on 1m. Ellie Pearce and Maia Pearson both made the 1m and 3m\nfinal which resulted in two silver South West medals for Maia. Narrowly missing out on a 1m medal\nEllie won the bronze on 3m plus two South West golds.\nIn the Age Group A section Ben Hall competed for the first time on platform winning the South West\ngold medal. After qualifying in fourth for the 1m final Ben Kearton raised his game. Performing a\nconfident round of dives he was not going to settle for anything less than glorious gold.\nElite group B diver Scarlett Colbourne just missed out on the 3m final where Amelie Underwood\nsuccessfully took the bronze which she later repeated on 1m. Scarlett paired up with Katie Martin to\nwin the silver 3m synchro medal.\nGroup B Elite boys Ollie Heath and Theo Stevens won the silver 3m synchro medal. Both boys are part\nof the Swim England Talent Z camp. Ollie had further success on the 1m board qualifying for the final\nin fourth position. He also made the platform final and just missed out on a medal finishing fourth.\nArchie Waines from the same group dived for the first time in the elite section. He dived consistently\nacross all three boards. On platform he initially led the pack with two technically impressive dives. \nContinuing her recent accomplishment at the British National Diving Cup elite group A diver Summer\nRadcliffe added a gold and silver medal to her collection. Katie Martin having already won a silver in\nsynchro collected a bronze on the 1m board.\nIn group A\, elite diver Euan McCabe was untouchable and won 2 gold medals with ease. Fifty clear\npoints ahead of his nearest rival on the 1m board and a whopping score of 530 points on the 3m\nboard.\nWith no competition experience Ava Cowper\, Martha Ticehurst and Laura Burrows performed well to\nset themselves personal best scores to build upon in the future. They all coped admirably with the\nenormity of the occasion.\nThe Armada Cup in association with Cisco Homes made it possible for Plymouth Diving to host an\nevent of this size. Their generous sponsorship was invaluable for which we are grateful for.\nPlymouth Diving would also like to thank Devonport Royal Dockyard Sport & Social Club who\ncontributed towards the medals\, Everyone Active for the use of the Life Centre facilities and Plymouth\nCity Council for their continued support. The divers and parents would also like to show their\nappreciation to the dedicated coaching staff and volunteers. SUMMARY:G Star & Mini White Rose
DESCRIPTION:Mini White Rose & G-Star 2022 Review \nWith the ongoing support of Pilkington Estates a team of twenty-five Plymouth divers travelled to\nLeeds over the weekend to compete in the Mini White Rose for Skills divers and G-Star for Age Group\ndivers.\nIt was the first opportunity for the Skills divers to showcase their talent in over two years and for the\nvast majority their first ever competition. Group D girls had the largest group of divers to battle\nagainst. Alice Jones and Eva Tsianavas dived well amongst the twenty-eight strong pack and gained\nvaluable experience. Isla Applin had an incredible round of dives finishing with the spectacular silver\nmedal. Isaac Ide proved unbeatable for the boys in group D topping the podium with a glorious gold.\nGroup C girls all finished in the top half. Poppy Jones in eighth position\, Abigail Bishop sixth and Ava\nCowper fourth and only just missed out on the bronze medal by less than two points. Group C boys\ncould not have dived better leaving no room for any other club on the podium. With an outstanding\nperformance by all three boys Kaiwen Dun won the bronze medal\, Lincoln Stephens the silver and\nLouis McCue the gold. In group B Kiri Pethick finished in a respectable ninth position and Laura\nBurrows was fourth.\nAll of the Age Group divers had it tough with other teams putting up a fight it left no room for error to\neven qualify for a final. Harry Westbury in group D picked up two finalist medals. He finished in\nfourth place on the 1m board and fifth on 3m. Between them the group C boys managed to win a\nfinalist medal across all three boards. Noah Underwood in fifth on 1m\, Will Heath was sixth on 3m\nand fourth on platform with Oscar Westbury joining him in fifth. Eva Lang and Lexi Davies took on all\nthree boards in the group C girls section. The most successful board for Lexi was 3m where she\nqualified for the final to win the sixth position medal. Erin Healey and Mathilde Tassart represented\nthe club in group B along with Ella Cornish\, Ellie Pearce\, Maia Pearson\, Ben Hall and Ben Kearton in\ngroup A.\nThe coaches for the three day event were Tommy Davis\, Ebony Colbourne and Lucy Gutierrez-\nFreeman. It was the first time away coaching for newly qualified Ebony and Lucy and they handled\nthe experience admirably with guidance from Tommy.

DESCRIPTION:British Elite Junior Diving Championships 2022\nSporting the new kit kindly provided by Pilkington Estates\, a small team of Plymouth\ndivers and their coach Sally Freeman headed off last week to Southend for the British Elite\nJunior Diving Championships. Hosted by the Southend Swimming and Diving Centre\, the\ncompetition ended on Saturday after a gruelling four day event. Showcasing the best\ntalent on offer in the UK\, this is a tough competition for the select few and a real sense of\nachievement for those divers chosen to represent Plymouth Diving.\nIn group A\, Euan McCabe qualified for the final on the 3m board in first position. After a\nclose fought final with the top four boys each scoring over the magical 500 points Euan\nfinished with the bronze medal. In the platform final there were only two contenders\nbattling for gold. Euan and Robbie Lee from Southampton Diving Academy outclassed all\nof the other finalists in what was a thrilling event\, full of top class dives. It concluded with\nEuan winning the silver and Robbie the gold.\nWhilst there were no medals for the group B boys their results were a success. Theo\nStevens just missed out on the 1m final in seventh position beating his personal best score\nto do so. Ollie Heath was thirteenth and Archie Waines in fifteenth. Ollie also performed\nwell on 3m beating his personal best score to finish tenth; Theo was fifteenth and Archie\nseventeenth. Ollie frustratingly missed the platform final by 5.2 points to finish seventh.\nNot to be outdone Archie also beat his personal best score on platform to finish eleventh.\nThis was Archie’s first British Elite Championships which provided a wealth of experience\nto build upon.\nIn the group A 1m event Katie Martin finished in thirteenth place. A large group of thirty\ndivers took part on the 3m board which resulted in Katie finishing in a respectable tenth\nposition. With an improved score of 56.85 points since her last competition it was a very\nencouraging outcome.\nGroup B girl Amelie Underwood was lying in fourth place going into the 1m final. With\npoints to make up Amelie was undeterred and with a fighting spirit claimed the gold. In\ntrue champion style Amelie also won the 3m gold medal rounding off two great events\nwhich could not have gone better. Scarlett Colbourne finished in eighth on 3m and ninth\non platform. Katie and Scarlett teamed up for the 3m synchro event along with Theo and\nOllie with both teams improving on their previous score to finish in sixth.\nOverall the six day trip resulted in personal achievements for all of the divers which they\ncan be proud of. \n

DESCRIPTION:Southwest Regional Skills \nThis weekend provided the first major opportunity for the Plymouth Skills divers to test\nthemselves against other divers from across the South and showcase their talent. The\nSouthwest Regional Skills competition supported by Pilkington Estates\, was held at the Life\nCentre and saw 50 divers competing and aiming to qualify for the National Skills Finals\,\nwhich will take place in Leeds on 9 th and 10 th of July.\nGroup D girls set the tone for the Plymouth divers scooping all three podium positions with\nAlice Jones having an incredible round of dives finishing with the gold medal. She was\nclosely followed by Isla Applin who took the silver medal and Teagan Mousley in the bronze\nmedal position with Eva Tsianavas in fourth. All four divers making the qualifying score for\nLeeds.\nNot to be out done\, the D Group boys put in some superb dives with Daniel Jones finishing\nfourth in his first competition and Isaac Ide taking a well-deserved gold medal after an\nexcellent round of dives which also saw him achieve the required score for the finals.\nMore success for Plymouth quickly followed\, with the podium positions for both the C\nGroup girls and boys being dominated by Plymouth divers. A fiercely fought battle in the\ngirl’s competition ended with a superb gold medal for Abi Bishop\, having produced some\noutstanding dives. The silver being taking by Ava Cowper\, the bronze by Poppy Jones and a\n14 th place finish for Mia Tickle\, in her first competition\, rounding off a brilliant performance\nfrom the girls.\nWith the pressure to perform mounting\, the C Group boys were up to the challenge\, with\nKaiwen Dun taking the bronze medal and Lincoln Stephens the silver. It was Louie McCue\nwho got the better of his club rivals\, winning the gold with some very consistent diving.\nThe B Group competition saw both Plymouth divers put in some excellent dives against\nsome experienced divers. Kiri Pethick winning the silver medal despite narrowly missing the\nfinals qualification score\, but with more competitions on the horizon she has plenty of\npositives to build on. Laura Burrows was also in action in this closely contested group and\nperformed well and getting the bronze medal.\nThe divers were coached by Sally Freeman\, Fito Gutierrez\, Claire Roberts\, Tommy Davis with\na batch of newly qualified coaches assisting. The weekend’s success again highlights that the\nfuture of diving in Plymouth is looking good and with the ongoing support of Plymouth\nActive Leisure and Pilkington Estates\, Plymouth Diving is hoping for continued success at the\nfinals in July. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:Southeast Regional Skills\nFollowing hot on the heels of last weeks’ phenomenal performance\, the Plymouth Diving\nSkills divers sponsored by Pilkington Estates\, travelled to Royal Tunbridge Wells in pursuit of\nmore medals. The Southeast Regional Skills competition held at the Tunbridge Sports Centre\nprovided the opportunity for the young divers to improve on their qualifying scores or a\nsecond chance to qualify for the National Skills Finals\, which will take place in Leeds on 9 th\nand 10 th of July.\nOnce again it was the Group D girls up first\, with the competition fierce and all the divers\nperforming well\, it was a tough start. However\, Isla Applin produced some excellent dives\nand walked away with a thoroughly deserved silver medal\, having smashed her personal\nbest. Following that amazing performance was never going to be easy\, but Eva Tsianavas\ndived well throughout and once again achieved the qualifying score\, finishing in sixth place.\nIn the boy’s competition Isaac Ide put in some superb dives against some talented young\ndivers and narrowly missed out on a podium place\, finishing in fourth.\nIn the Group C girls\, the Plymouth divers were aiming for a repeat of the previous weeks\npodium lockout\, but the other competitors had other ideas and produced some very good\ndiving to really push the Plymouth girls. Last weeks’ winner Abi Bishop\, finished in 8 th with\nsome solid diving and Poppy Jones produced some superb dives to take fifth place\, only five\npoints from a medal. However\, it was Plymouth’s Ava Cowper whole stole the limelight\,\nproducing a brilliant performance to claim a well-deserved gold medal and break the 300\npoints mark in the process.\nNext up was the Group C boys\, with Kaiwen Dun taking fifth following a consistent round of\ndives. It was Lincoln Stephens who once again showed his class\, with some excellent dives to\nclaim the bronze medal.\nB Group girls had the most divers competing and saw Plymouth’s Kiri Pethick aiming to gain\nvaluable experience and build on her previous score. She produced some good dives to\nplace a very respectable 18 th against a strong field of divers.\nThe divers were coached by Tommy Davis. The success over the last few weeks has shown\nthat Plymouth Diving can look forward to the National Finals in July with much optimism\nand with the support of Plymouth Active Leisure and Pilkington Estates\, the sky’s the limit. \n \n

DESCRIPTION:  \nReturn to Nationals for talented divers \nThis weekend saw Plymouth Life Centre host the largest national diving competition in England\, with divers travelling throughout England as well as guest divers from Scotland\, Wales\, and Dubai. \nPlymouth’s selected team of 15\, who had all qualified through regional events were keen to show off their home pool and represent their club\, demonstrating their hard work\, with the support of Pilkington Estates. This was the first Swim England National Age groups for 11 of the divers showing a great future for forthcoming competitions. \nFirst up on the Thursday was the synchro event. Plymouth’s Yvie Tucker and Eva Lang started the competition on a high\, claiming the gold medal with beautifully executed dives showing their partnership well placed\, with teammates Lexi Davies and Martha Ticehurst taking 6th place. Not to be outdone\, Noah Underwood and partner Alex Whittaker took the gold medal in the boys event\, securing Plymouth as group C/D champions in both the boys and girls category. \nThe four-day long competition saw further diving successes across all groups. \nErin Healey on the Girls group B 3m placed 22nd with some excellent diving in a large group of 28. Erin repeated her great diving on the platform event\, with an amazing front two and a half somersault in pike position from the 10m board\, which put her in 17th position\, resulting in personal bests (PB’s) on both boards. Mathilde Tassart also joined this event with a great set of dives and placed her in 21st position. \nAlex Whittaker went on to continue his success from the previous day with another gold medal following an excellent display of diving in the boys C group platform event. Not content with his two medals so far\, he performed a great set of dives on the 3m board and added a silver to his collection. Will Heath\, stepping up to his first year in group C in Age groups performed brilliantly with an amazing back one and a half somersaults in tuck placing him securely in 6th position on 3m\, and again on platform. \nThe boys were joined by Noah Underwood and Oscar Westbury on the 3m and again all four divers competed on the 1m board whereby they firmly put their mark on the competition dominating the top half of the leader board\, with Noah taking a brilliant bronze\, Alex 4th Will 5th and Oscar 6th. \nGirls C group divers had a strong team of four competing over the weekend. Yvie Tucker\, Lexi Davies and Eva Lang\, took to the boards again in a close competition on the 1m and performed a strong set of dives which placed Yvie in 6th\, just 1.9 points behind the bronze\, Lexi just behind in 7th and Eva in 10th with a PB and happy with her back one and a half somersault tucked being a highlight of her event. \nThe trio took to the 3m board the next day where Yvie performed a beautiful inward dive pike. Martha Ticehurst joined them on this board and showed a confident round of dives to the judges in her first Age Groups. Lexi topped the Plymouth Divers on this board in another strong 10th position. The final board for the girls was platform. Whilst there were no medals\, they all yet again demonstrated outstanding dives. \nGirls group A divers Maia Pearson and Ellie Pearce made for a nail-biting competition on the 1m board\, with Maia winning a bronze medal and Ellie finishing in 4th place with only 2.3 points behind her teammate with a PB. \nThe duo continued their impressive skills on the 3m board the following day with another closely fought competition whereby Maia\, following a high scoring inward two and a half somersaults in tuck secured herself her second bronze of the competition\, and Ellie finished in 9th place. \nEllie had another day of competing ahead of her in the girls A platform event\, with a solid series of dives putting her into 9th position. Teammate Ella Cornish displayed a strong start to her National Age Group debut and finished in 17th position. \nIn the Boys A 1m board Ben Kearton displayed some impressive diving\, starting well scoring all 7s on his first dive – an exceptional front one and a half somersaults tucked\, and remaining strong\, just missing a podium position\, and placing 4th with a PB. \nHarry Westbury was the only Plymouth diver in the D event and began his great introduction to the national event on the 1m board with two excellent dives and consistent scoring rewarding him with a silver medal. He competed again on the 3m board and gained a bronze to add to his silver. \nThe Plymouth Divers finished 4th overall from 14 clubs\, scooping 9 medals. Divers were coached by Tommy Davis\, and Fito Guttierez who said “I just want to say that this weekend showed our strength as a club and the fight to not give up after the pandemic! We all had a tough time\, at last the divers had a national event to make themselves proud. They showed grit and determination to perform in front of a packed balcony. We had plenty of divers in the podium and lots of top 6’s. I want to thank all the people behind the scenes for a great Nationals in our pool\, the Life Centre – the best to hold big events in the UK and beyond…” \nPlymouth Diving can look forward proudly to the next events to come. \n \n

SUMMARY:National Skills Final
DESCRIPTION:Hot on the heels of the of last weekends’ success it was the turn of the Plymouth Diving Skills Divers to test their ability against the best in England at the National Skills Diving Finals in Leeds. The competition required all divers to attain a tough qualifying score to be eligible and Plymouth Diving sponsored by Pilkington Estates travelled with a strong squad of 11 divers. \nDay One saw the Group D2 boys open the competition with 12 boys battling it out for the honours. The competition was fierce at the top with the lead changing with every dive but some superb diving from Isaac Ide allowed him to scoop a well-deserved bronze\, his first national level medal. \nNext up was the Group C1 girls\, where hopes were high\, with 3 divers due to compete. Unfortunately\, Poppy Jones had to withdraw from the competition with injury but despite her disappointment she was happy to take up the role of chief cheerleader. Spurred on by some fantastic support Abigail Bishop and Ava Cowper produced some solid diving on all boards against some very talented divers. Abigail finished in 11th place overall\, but it was Ava who produced an outstanding set of dives to take a brilliant silver medal for Plymouth. \nDay Two presented Plymouth with several more chances to claim more medals and started with the Group D1 girls. Once again\, the competition for the podium places was tough but the 3 young Plymouth divers more than held their own. Although a medal wasn’t to be\, the trio walked away with their heads held up high and having gained some valuable experience. Teagan Mousley finishing 12th just behind her teammate Alice Jones in 11th and Isla Applin in 7th. Eva Tsianavas was the only diver competing in the D2 group and dived well throughout but the competition for the top places was intense and she finished 20th overall. \nGroup C1 boys had Kaiwen Dun and Lincoln Stephens diving and they both produced some very consistent diving to finish in 6th and 7th respectively\, only separated by a single point. Having watched his teammates face some tough competition it was finally time for Louie McCue to try and secure a top 3 medal. Despite the excellent opposition he remained calm and composed and produced some outstanding dives to finish in 3rd and walk away with the bronze medal. \nThe divers enjoyed their first ever national competition and were coached by Fito Gutierrez\, Lucy Freeman-Gutierrez and Ebony Colbourne. With Mark Jones gaining valuable experience as a level one judge at his first major competition. \nThe weekend’s success again highlights that the future of diving in Plymouth is looking good and with the ongoing support of Plymouth Active Leisure and Pilkington Estates\, Plymouth Diving is hoping for continued success. \n \n
