DESCRIPTION:Amelie Underwood a former gymnast was spotted on a scouting trip by\nPlymouth Diving coach Sally Freeman where she attended Montpellier Primary\nSchool. An invitation to join the Talent Squad followed which was accepted\nand Amelie made steady progress. She took part in her first skills competition\nin 2018 at the age of ten where she finished in the top six.\nBetween 2018 and 2020 there were numerous top six finishes and several\npodium placings for Amelie at age group level competitions.\nIn 2020 Sally recognised that Amelie had the credentials to become part of the\nNational Elite Squad and compete at a higher level of events. This was a big\nundertaking for Amelie; it meant joining an established group of divers who\nwere much older and with greater experience than her. Amelie took the move\nin her stride and fitted in well due to her maturity\, hardworking attitude and\nlevel headed approach.\nAt the British Elite Diving Championships in October 2021 Amelie was\nsuccessful and won a silver medal for her 1m and 3m performance. By April\n2022 at the same competition Amelie was stronger and more polished\,\nbringing home the gold medal for the 1m and 3m. Acknowledged for her\ncontinued development Amelie was selected to represent England at the\nCAMO Invitational in Montreal\, Canada.\nThe 3m board at CAMO was the most lucrative for Amelie. After the\npreliminary round she was in sixth position but gave the final her absolute all\nto win the silver medal. Juliette John from Crystal Palace Diving Club joined\nAmelie on the podium in third place.\nOn the 1m board Amelie finished fourth in the preliminary round and\nupgraded this positon to win a bronze medal in the final. Juliette finished in\nfirst place. Corin Burrows-Mackley from Dive London Aquatics Club finished in\nfifth position on both the 1m and 3m boards making the English trio a force to\nbe reckoned with.\nParents Paul and Zoe along with Brother Noah are incredibly proud of Amelie’s\nachievements to date. As part of the Swim England Y Camp Development\nProgramme the next chapter for Amelie is set to be promising with many more\nsuccesses to come. Sally continues to nurture Amelie’s diving and credit has to\nbe given to Sally for detecting her potential at an early age.
