An impressive weekend Plymouth Diving at the Southeast Regional Age Group Competition in Southampton
Last weekend Plymouth Diving supported by Pilkington Estates and Wollens took a strong team of 14 divers to compete at the Southeast Regional Age Group event in Southampton. The event provides the opportunity for the Age Group divers to test themselves against divers from across the south and southeast. The competition was fierce with some fantastic performances from the Plymouth divers with the fantastic support of their coach Tommy Davis.
The A category for 16 to 18 year-olds saw Madeleine Elliott, Eva Lang, Evie Royal and Martha Ticehurst produce some outstanding dives on all three boards. Madeleine, Eva and Evie dived superbly and were all changing places throughout the competition across all boards as they battled each other for the medals. On 1m it was Evie who come out on top winning an excellent gold with a brilliant back one and half somersault dive just pushing Eva into the silver medal spot. On 3m again it was the three Plymouth girls who were the ones to beat, this time it was Madeleine who won gold with Evie in silver and Eva just missing the podium by a point in 4th. Martha dived well on 3m and finished the event in 11th overall. On Platform Eva produced her best diving of the event with some brilliant diving and won a gold to add to her collection with Madeleine securing the bronze for team Plymouth Diving.
The B category for 14 and 15 year olds saw Charlie Clinick and Poppy Jones flying the flag for Plymouth Diving and they both dived well across all boards. Charlie was consistent all weekend and his strong performances saw him finish 5th on all three boards. Poppy produced another strong set of dives across all boards and proved to be the diver to beat. She ended the weekend with a fantastic three golds.
In the C category for 12 and 13 year olds Alice Jones, Teagan Mousley, Libby Edelson, Emily Williams and Daniel Robinson competed. Alice and Teagan dived well all weekend and had mixed results. Alice was trying out several new dives and ended with three top ten finishes. Teagan was also honing some new dives and secured two top ten finishes and narrowly missed out on a medal in 4th in the platform event. Emily also dived well and produced some good scores and gained more valuable experience at age group level. Libby produced the best overall results for Plymouth Diving ended the weekend in 6th in all events with some very good diving.
The youngest divers in the competition were in the D category for 10 and 11 year olds with Myia Lilley, Theo Wills and Bobby Cole representing Plymouth. All three divers had an amazing weekend making the top ten finishes on all three boards and gaining more experience at this level having moved up from skills competitions at the start of the year. Myia produced several excellent dives and won a very impressive silver to secure her first ever medal on platform.
Overall, the weekend was a resounding success for the Plymouth divers and bodes well for the National Finals in Birmingham in June 2025, where Plymouth Diving will be aiming to regain the title of Best Age Group Diving Club in England.
