National Age Group 2019 Review
A select team of 16 divers from Plymouth have just competed at The National Age Group Championships held in Sheffield. It is the largest national diving competition in England and all of the divers did an admirable job representing the club.
On the 1m board the girls in group D just missed out on medals with Amelie Underwood in 4th and Scarlett Colbourne in 5th. Amelie retained her 4th position on 3m but Scarlett upped her game to claim the silver and also won another silver medal for her platform performance. Yvie Tucker scored PB’s on both the 1m and 3m boards with a very respectable score on platform, which she competed for the first time.
In the boys group D 1m event Theo Stevens and Oliver Heath stood alongside each other on the podium. Oliver was ahead of Theo all the way until the final dive when Theo just eased ahead to claim the gold and Oliver the silver. On platform, Oliver added another silver medal to his collection. Harry Denham vastly increased his PB’s on the 3m board and platform.
The girls’ group C category was by far the largest. Competing against 37 divers Ellie Pearce finished 5th on the 1m board. Maia Pearson also delivered some outstanding dives to finish 5th on 3m. Phoebe White gave a consistent platform performance and increased her PB by over 20 points.
Boys group C was also a large group with some tough competition. All 3 boys; Ben Kearton, Archie Waines and Jack Kinsman-Moore improved on their PB’s and performed some solid dives.
The only diver to represent group B was Lucy Gutierrez-Freeman, she eventually finished in 7Th position on the 1m board after a tough fought contest where positions changed repeatedly.
Representing Plymouth; Maria Marasescu from Romania claimed the silver medal with teammate Evie McCabe narrowly missing out on the bronze by 2.5 points. Maria improved her medal position to gold in the group A platform event.
In the boys group A, Curtis Yuen from Macau (but representing Plymouth) stormed ahead of fellow competitors to win gold in both the boys group A 1m and 3m competition.
Coaches for the weekend were Fito Gutierrez, Ryan Wills and Ashley Hendrick.
